Eight students from MSOE. The Blue Mountain Project partners with rural farming communities to improve the health, education and economy in the region. The team also was tasked with creating a business model and training program to teach Jamaicans how to use the equipment. Jamaicans will use their profit to fund internet access for a computer lab in the Blue Mountain region.

The lab was constructed in 2. MSOE alumnus Jeff Hanson . His work continues today and the organization has been renamed Digital Bridge, an independent nonprofit. Since the beginning of the school year, the team has spent three hours per week in class and the lab working on the project. Shefner is very proud.

They are all putting in at least an additional five hours of time outside of class working on the project each week. The NSF I- Corps brings together academic researchers, graduate students and business networks through research- generated ideas that are honed in collaboration with industry. MSOE is one of five academic institutions in Milwaukee that joined forces to form a local site of the National Innovation Network and award grants. Through The Commons, a collegiate entrepreneurial skills accelerator that connects students from Southeastern Wisconsin to work on real- world projects, they recruited five interns with international backgrounds and an interest in working with technology, non- profit organizations, and international businesses and relations.
